OUR FOUNDER
Karmameju was founded in 1999 by the Danish entrepreneurs Mette Skjærbæk and Julie Krogstad. Julie Krogstad left the brand in 2007, after which Mette has continued to develop and shape the brand that Karmameju is today.
Mette Skjærbæk’s product development is always centred on an uncompromising approach to creating exceptional products that optimise the skin and stimulate the senses through scent, sight and touch. As an eco-conscious skincare visionary, innovation and integrity are paramount in everything she creates:

“After ten years as a model in the beauty and fashion industry, I experienced first-hand just how mentally uplifting self-care, home spa rituals and ‘natural health’ can be. In my small flat in New York, I delved beneath the surface of the whole concept of ‘natural health’ and created everything from teas to aromatherapeutic scented candles, perfume compositions and bath salts. It was during this time that I developed a deep-seated desire to create not only natural products, but also highly effective, results-driven skincare – my guiding star in founding Karmameju Skincare. When I returned home from New York, I founded Karmameju with the ambition of redefining wellbeing.
Other elements, such as working with the fascinating, sensory-stimulating art of aromatherapy, are also essential to me. The use of natural fragrance has been a passion of mine since I was 18, when I discovered nature’s enriching world of scents.
The concept of ‘holistic health’ has captivated me since I was very young, and the scent of my parents’ large greenhouse remains one of my strongest olfactory memories. I have always been drawn to nature, both for the blissful tranquillity it instils and the miraculous, vibrant bioactivity that so impresses me. I believe that we are deeply connected to nature, and that the body understands all things natural.
Combining skincare with my love of holistic health creates the perfect balance for me. If I can improve your skin whilst inspiring you to take good care of both body and mind, I feel truly grateful.
