From antiperspirant deodorant to natural deodorant

Despite any myths you may have heard, natural deodorants can be at least as effective at eliminating odour as conventional deodorants. Choosing a deodorant is perhaps the most important choice you make amongst all your skincare products, as the area under your arms is in direct contact with the body’s vital, cleansing functions. There are many benefits to switching from antiperspirant deodorant back to a natural one: choosing a natural deodorant means making a choice that works with your body, rather than against it. Restore the natural balance in your underarms. Here’s everything you need to know.

______

SWEAT IS GOOD
You can’t talk about deodorants without talking about sweat. Anti-perspirant properties seem to be the yardstick many people use to judge whether a deodorant can make the cut.

Sweating is your body’s natural cooling system, which regulates body temperature: your sweat is secreted through the pores and evaporates on the surface of your skin, helping you to cool down whilst also flushing out the body’s many waste products.

ALUMINIUM IS OFTEN FOUND IN ANTIPERSPIRANTS – BUT WHAT EXACTLY IS AN ANTIPERSPIRANT?
As the word suggests, ‘antiperspirant’ means ‘anti-sweat’. An antiperspirant deodorant helps to reduce sweat production using aluminium salts, an active ingredient that is applied to the skin’s surface in a gel form, which clogs the pores and thus prevents sweat from being released.

A natural deodorant helps you eliminate unwanted odours, whilst still allowing your underarms to perspire.

A natural deodorant helps you eliminate unwanted odour, but still allows your underarms to perspire. This might take some getting used to if you’ve been used to antiperspirants: deodorants with natural ingredients help eliminate odour using natural ingredients, but won’t keep your underarms completely dry, as they don’t block the pores. A little moisture is good – it’s a sign of a healthy and balanced body.

A SKIN-CARING ROLL-ON – INGREDIENTS THAT DO YOU GOOD
When you go back to nature, you choose natural, plant-based ingredients that care for the delicate skin in your underarms and improve the skin’s condition. Both SOFT natural deodorant and BREEZE natural deodorant contain ingredients such as vitamin E and cucumber extract, which soften and soothe sensitive skin, helping to prevent irritation and redness. An irritation-free underarm area ensures a closer and longer-lasting shave.

Natural deodorants stand out because they do not contain aluminium, triclosan, silicone, mineral oil, parabens or other chemicals found in conventional deodorants.

CHOOSE BETWEEN BREEZE AND SOFT
We all have different body chemistries and therefore different needs when it comes to choosing a deodorant and the effect it has. There can be significant differences in sweat production, but age, diet and exercise can also affect perspiration. As with all other skincare products, you’ll need to try a few out to find your favourite.

The deodorants are non-whitening, aluminium-free and have sweat-absorbing properties that do not hinder the skin’s vital cleansing function

Both SOFT and Breeze natural deodorants are fragrance-free – but feature natural botanical scents. By avoiding stimulating essential oils, we ensure the most soothing experience possible with our deodorants – even after shaving and for very sensitive underarms. The deodorants are non-whitening, aluminium-free and have sweat-absorbing properties that do not hinder the skin’s vital cleansing function or disrupt the body’s natural balance.

SOFT is formulated with sweat-absorbing rice powder, whilst BREEZE is formulated with a microbiome-protecting zinc complex. SOFT has a mild scent of sage and magnolia extract, whilst BREEZE has a fresh scent of cucumber extract.

HOW-TO
Switching to an aluminium-free deodorant may take some getting used to for some people. We therefore recommend allowing your body around two weeks to adjust after stopping the use of antiperspirant. As the sweat glands are no longer blocked, your body may instinctively overcompensate by sweating more at first. Please be patient. Your body will soon return to its natural balance and your natural baseline for how much and how your body sweats, provided it is not affected by the antiperspirant effect.

You can help your underarms return to their natural state by washing them daily with a soft konjac sponge, avoiding synthetic fabrics in your clothing, and refreshing your underarms with water and a few swipes of deodorant throughout the day, if necessary. Returning to a natural state may require patience for some, though not for everyone; it all comes down to your personal body chemistry and how well the deodorant’s ingredients suit your underarms.

- Always shake well before use to ensure the active ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the product.
- Apply to clean, dry underarms after a shower.
- Apply BREEZE or SOFT so that the product covers the entire underarm.
- Allow the product to dry before getting dressed.
