That’s why I started making smoothies
When I first started my smoothie ritual, it wasn’t really for the sake of my skin. Years ago, I realised that I didn’t think my children were eating the six portions of fruit and vegetables a day recommended by the Danish Health Authority.
For breakfast, they might have had a piece of fruit if they fancied it. At lunchtime, nobody really knows exactly what happens to the school packed lunches when you’re not looking. Dinner is easier to keep track of, but they were also often in dining groups, at birthday parties and lots of other occasions. One thing was certain: the children weren’t getting six portions of fruit and veg every day.
From sweet children’s smoothies to wild powerhouses
I decided to start making smoothies to supplement breakfast, and began slowly with classics like yoghurt, banana and strawberries. Before long, I started adding a bit of spinach, then a little bee pollen, then a bit of cold green tea instead of quite so much yoghurt.
Over the course of about six months, the sweet, child-friendly smoothies turned into wild, anti-inflammatory powerhouses packed with vitamins, protein and minerals, along with healthy fats and plenty of superfoods – and the children took to them just fine.
Our smoothies today are very different from where we started, and they’re the easiest way to ensure we all get a good portion of nutritious, plant-based ingredients every day. I can highly recommend them as a really great start to the day – one I couldn’t do without myself.
You can feel the difference in your body and your energy levels, and it’s an easy and effective way to nourish your skin from within. Smoothies are the ideal ‘skin food’, and by adding anti-inflammatory ingredients to your smoothie, you can help your skin and body combat many internal and external inflammatory conditions. What’s healthy for our body is also healthy for our skin.
With a bit of preparation, it’s easier to make smoothies every morning. Find inspiration here.
