- A daily beauty ritual for body and mind

Brushing the skin is a centuries-old beauty ritual practised in many cultures and across the globe.

Achieve visible results
Dry brush regularly with the RECHARGE ionic dry brush and achieve visible results quickly: dry brushing alleviates dry skin on the body, removes dead skin cells, helps to reduce and prevent cellulite*, boosts energy levels and promotes balance and well-being in the body. Brush with long, straight strokes towards the heart to stimulate the nervous system, blood circulation and the lymphatic system.

Negative ions
Dry brushing with Karmameju’s ionic body brush generates negative ions through natural friction on the skin. Negative ions support the body’s oxygen uptake, aid detoxification and strengthen the skin’s resilience. The fresh energy and sense of wellbeing you experience by the sea or in the forest is the same feeling that RECHARGE gives you.

The RECHARGE Karmameju dry brush is suitable for all skin types, but if you have sensitive skin or are new to dry brushing, you may wish to start with the BUFF brush and then move on to RECHARGE later.

A ritual many return to
Karmameju dry brushes have become classics, and thousands of consumers have made dry brushing a daily ritual because the many benefits can be seen and felt – and it can feel like something’s missing when you haven’t done it.

Materials and design
RECHARGE is made from beech wood with a strap of genuine full-grain leather and natural, soft horsehair from the horse’s mane, as well as extra-fine copper wires. Karmameju dry brushes are unique – developed with specific hardness, hair type, hair density and hair length, and made from FSC-certified beech wood.

*In a study by the University of Sunderland in England, researchers found that daily dry brushing reduced participants’ cellulite by an average of 26% in just 5 weeks.

USE

  • Karmameju’s ionic dry brush should be used without water or soap. Use it before your bath as part of your daily skincare routine.
  • Start with light, gentle strokes and adjust the pressure depending on how sensitive your skin is. Begin with the palms of your hands or the soles of your feet, brushing inwards from the outermost parts of your body and working rhythmically in long, even strokes towards the heart.
  • Feel free to combine the long, straight strokes with circular movements on the outer thighs and on the buttocks.
  • When brushing your neck, brush from the shoulders upwards. As you are above the heart, the force of gravity will naturally draw the blood towards the heart.
  • Brush your whole body except for the delicate skin on your face, breasts and décolletage, and always brush towards the heart.
  • After three to five minutes of dry brushing, you’re ready for a shower. We recommend a cold shower, which stimulates blood circulation and gives the skin a fresh glow. After the shower, rub your body thoroughly with a dry towel. Finish with Karmameju body care products.
  • It’s a good idea to use two brushes, one in each hand – we call this ‘double-brushing’ – which creates a good rhythmic flow and allows you to brush your whole body thoroughly in just a couple of minutes.
  • Remember that the toxins released by dry brushing need to be flushed out by drinking water every day. All new beauty rituals take a little time before you can see clear results, so be patient and persistent with your dry brushing routine.
How to dry brush

Made from FSC-certified beech wood with a strap of exclusive full-grain leather. The bristles consist of extra-fine copper wires combined with horsehair cut from the mane. Traditional craftsmanship, produced in Germany.

Do not wash with water or soap. Clean the brush after use. Run your thumb through the bristles to remove all skin particles. You can also use a comb to clean the brush, or tap the brush firmly against a clean, flat surface. We recommend that every member of the household has their own brush.

For easier and more effective cleaning, we recommend looking after your dry brush withthe TINY cleansing toolfor dry brushes, which effectively removes dirt and dead skin cells from all types of Karmameju dry brushes. The TINY cleansing tool is designed for daily use and for weekly/monthly maintenance following use ofthe Recharge ionic dry brush.

PLEASE NOTE:Do not use the brush if you are allergic to copper, nickel, bronze, tin or horsehair. Do not brush if your skin is wet or damp. Take care not to brush too hard; avoid areas with irritated, sensitive or damaged skin, and take extra care around raised moles and grazes. It is normal for the skin to redden slightly. Loose bristles may occur. Remove any loose copper wires protruding from the surface of the brush.

Dry brushing has been practised for centuries all over the world and across a wide variety of cultures. It is a simple, easy and cost-free way to revitalise your beauty routine – as well as your skin and energy levels. Regular dry brushing produces visible results quickly. Read on to learn more about the many benefits of dry brushing.

Boost your energy
For many people, feeling tired, listless and drained of energy is the rule rather than the exception. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Lethargy, exhaustion and a general lack of energy may be due to the lymphatic system being blocked, functioning at reduced capacity or simply having succumbed to stress and harmful environmental influences. By stimulating the lymphatic system with dry brushing, you can get the system working properly again.

Stimulating the function of the lymphatic system
TThe lymphatic system plays an essential role in our blood circulation, and one of its primary functions is to filter the blood. A complex network of lymphatic vessels carries a clear fluid called “lymph” around the body, filtering, draining and recycling it as it goes. A healthy lymph flow is therefore extremely important for a well-functioning and efficient lymphatic system.

Cleansing and detoxification
The lymph nodes, which are spread throughout the body along the lymphatic vessels, filter and cleanse the lymph fluid, send clean blood cells out into the body and break down bacteria and waste products. As well as cleansing and detoxifying, the lymphatic system recycles digested fats and proteins, sending them out into the body where they help boost energy levels.

Go in-depth
Lymphatic vessels lie just beneath the top layer of skin, and they send lymph fluid into the body’s deeper lymphatic vessels. Any blockage in the superficial lymphatic vessels results in blockages in the deeper lymphatic vessels, so dry brushing is an excellent method for stimulating the entire lymphatic system by working only on the surface.

No age limit
Dry brushing will be particularly beneficial for people who are more sedentary, whether due to old age, disability or illness. A thorough session with the brush stimulates the lymphatic system just as much as 20 minutes’ exercise and also helps the body eliminate waste products. As long as you always brush towards the heart, you can even do it whilst sitting down.

New lease of life
Dry brushing removes dead skin cells and opens the pores, promoting detoxification and toning the skin. The gentle stimulation of the skin’s connective tissue promotes the production of collagen and elastin fibres, which is why dry brushing can even help reduce cellulite.

The healing properties of negative ions

- Aids recovery from physical exhaustion or extreme tiredness – by increasing oxygen levels in the blood and ensuring more efficient utilisation of oxygen, negative ions help the body recover more quickly from exhaustion.

- Stabilises brain function – by ensuring ample amounts of oxygen in the blood, negative ions help to normalise brain function, resulting in a relaxed and calm state.

- Blood-purifying – by ensuring increased levels of calcium and sodium in the bloodstream, the negative ions help to restore a healthy (slightly alkaline) pH balance in the blood.

- Boosts metabolism – by stimulating the exchange of electronic matter in cell walls, negative ions help to boost metabolism.

- Strengthens the immune system – high levels of negative ions promote the production of globulin in the blood, making you more resistant to illness.

- Balances the autonomic nervous system – negative ions can soothe or relax tense nerves by creating a balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic parts of the autonomic nervous system.

- Improves digestion – by counteracting overstimulation of the sympathetic nervous system, negative ions help to relax the stomach and intestines. They promote the production of digestive enzymes, thereby improving digestion.

- Cell rejuvenation – negative ions help to revitalise cell renewal, increase the vitality of muscle tissue and strengthen the internal organs. / For general health – negative ions can breathe new life into the body, revitalise all its systems and cells, and improve your general health.

The scientific explanation

Energy

Energy can be defined in terms of strength, vitality and power, and the sustained activity it generates, whether mental or physical. It is energy that enables our bodies to function. And it is energy that is paramount to what we call quality of life. Whether this quality of life is present in abundant, joyful measure, or whether one only becomes aware of it when it disappears.

Electricity

The human body utilises several different forms of energy: chemical, mechanical, electromagnetic and electrical. As you probably know, electricity is a fundamental force of nature, consisting of negative and positive particles that both attract and repel one another. These so-called charged particles manifest themselves as movement, or what we call an electric current. Electrical energy plays a crucial role in the body’s functioning.

Ions

Ions generate electrical energy in the body. Put simply, they are atoms or molecules in which the total number of electrons does not equal the total number of protons, giving the atom a positive or negative electrical charge. Ions with an extra electron are called anions and carry a negative charge. Ions with fewer electrons than protons carry a positive charge and are called cations.

Negative ions

Ions occur naturally and are created by friction – often friction between air and water. The beneficial effects of negative ions have long been recognised. The uplifting sense of well-being one experiences by a waterfall in the mountains or by the sound of the waves at the seaside is a good example. This sense of well-being is due to thousands of negative ions, which affect the human body’s biochemistry. We benefit from negatively charged oxygen ions, which are found in the air we breathe and in the water we drink.

Positive ions

Positive ions have the exact opposite effect. They are produced by mobile phones and electrical equipment with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and accumulate in places where the air is stagnant and dust settles: in windowless offices, on TV screens and in front of computer monitors. It is not difficult to imagine how harmful they are to our health.

Free radicals

Our bodies are constantly under attack from chemical compounds known as ‘free radicals’. Free radicals are generated by external environmental factors and within the body itself, and they ‘steal’ an electron from another atom or molecule in order to achieve electrical stability. In the process, they cause serious damage to cells and tissues.

Antioxidants

An effective solution to counteract this cellular damage is antioxidants. Antioxidants occur naturally in fruit and vegetables, and they readily donate an extra electron, thereby neutralising the free radicals and preventing them from damaging the body. Antioxidants are often supplied to the body through the diet, but this beneficial process can also be supported in other ways – such as through ionic dry brushing of the body.

Ion dry brushing of the body

Dry brushing with Karmameju’s ion body brush releases negative electrical ions directly onto the skin through natural friction. The highly conductive design, featuring copper-alloyed bristles, ensures that the ions are easily absorbed by the skin. By providing your body with an abundance of negative ions, you give it a large supply of extra electrons. In this way, it is ready to neutralise the daily onslaught of free radicals and prevent inflammation and the ailments that free radicals can cause.
