Your skin changes with the seasons – and winter requires more moisture, more oil and extra protection. Here’s Karmameju founder Mette Skjærbæk’s personal winter ritual.

Mette’s Winter Face Ritual

No two days are the same in my skincare routine; ‘check in with your skin’ is my most important recommendation. If you sleep in a cool room in winter, your skin will be less dry than if you turn up the radiator. If you’re heading to the beach in windy, cold weather, protect your skin with nourishing plant oils. If your skin feels particularly ‘thirsty’, make sure to give it plenty of extra moisture on those days. The weather, our daily activities, our hormones – everything plays a part in how our largest organ, the skin, is feeling on any given day.

However, some products are essential in my winter skincare routine, and you’ll find my steps below. Some rituals I follow 365 days a year. For my facial skincare, this involves daily dry brushing with RENEW and a muslin washclothwhen I cleanse my skin in the evening.
Always treat your face, neck and décolletage – what we at Karmameju call ‘the whole face’.

Your skin, your skincare – here’s my routine for this winter.

Step 1
I stabilise my skin’s pH level after a bath with HERO pH solution. All skincare starts with the skin feeling healthy, and it does when its pH level – the acid mantle – is in balance. Our tap water is alkaline, and the skin doesn’t like that. If you have dermatologically challenged or dry skin, don’t skip HERO – all skin health starts with the right pH level

Step 2
I can see the effects of my 51 birthdays – which I’ve been lucky enough to celebrate – most clearly around my eyes. I do my bit to keep time at bay with COUTURE eye cream, which meets all the needs of the thinner, more delicate skin around the eyes: it plumps, protects, smooths, stimulates and nourishes.

Step 3
INFINITY serum-lotion is moisture, moisture, moisture – and in abundance. I also love our facial serum FIRM, SHIELD and CLEAR, which I use a bit in rotation, but I use INFINITY every day as a big, hydrating glass of electrolytes for the skin. INFINITY is for both the face and body.

Step 4
During the day:
BB cream. Day cream, sun cream and light foundation. I use sun cream in both summer and winter. It’s the most important thing if we want to avoid premature ageing of the skin. The cream moisturises and nourishes. SPF 30 protects. The colour pigments even out redness and unevenness in skin tone. A perfect 3-in-1 that makes me feel more beautiful.

In the evening:
VELVET face cream to provide the skin with the right ingredients for its vital regenerative night-time work.

Step 5
Golden drops of GLOW face oil. I love oil, and our skin, our ‘leather’, benefits so much from it. It makes the skin supple and lovely, and there’s no better protection against wind, frost and the cold.

During the day: I use it as the final, outermost layer. I rub the oil between my palms and press it onto my BB cream once it’s had time to absorb.

In the evening: I use GLOW face oil to gently massage my skin – and finish with VELVET face cream.
