Food for the skin

Skincare is the ‘food’ we give our skin from the outside. Leave-on products in particular, which remain on the skin all day, are absorbed by the body, and a significant percentage of the product must pass through the body’s detoxifying organs before it leaves our system.

Skincare from within is at least as important as the protective, stimulating and moisturising skincare we apply externally. What is healthy for our skin is also healthy for our body. Skincare from within is essential for healthy, beautiful skin.

What is skin food?

Unprocessed food is, as a rule, skin food. A simple rule of thumb is that food that looks as nature created it is ‘real food’.

So, to give a simple example, it’s better to have five potatoes than a packet of crisps.

Nature produces virtually nothing that does not contain essential nutrients for us humans. When I go shopping, I try to make sure that most of the food I put in my trolley is food that looks just as it did when nature created it.

One day I came across a quote that sums it up perfectly for me. It’s by the American doctor David Katz, and it goes:

EAT REAL FOOD

NOT TOO MUCH

MOSTLY PLANTS

That makes perfect sense to me. I’m quite relaxed about my diet, but I’m a fan of the 80/20 balance. You can read more about it here

Simple and nourishing

I’m a big fan of making healthy living easy – especially for my children. That’s how the concept of Skinfood smoothies in our home.

Smoothies are an easy source of healthy nourishment for your body and skin, as I’ve written about in the article ‘Skinfood smoothie inspiration’here. In this article, you’ll also find our smoothie inspiration leaflet in PDF format. It’s easy to print out and stick on the fridge for some initial inspiration.

However, the most important thing you can give your skin and body is water. Hydrating the skin! We’re very passionate about this at Karmameju. Read more about it here.

All the best,
