Reusable and recyclable plastic packaging

Since recycling containers for plastic were introduced in the municipality where I live, I’ve been pretty shocked at how much plastic we get through every week as a family in an ordinary household.

Food packaging in particular seems to fill up the plastic bin. All the packaging around our fruit and vegetables, cheese, tortillas, take-out packaging – yes, everything seems to be wrapped in plastic – and every week, I carry out what I think is far too much plastic waste to the container.

It’s some comfort to me that it can be recycled, but still. I want to cut down on the amount of plastic consumed in our home wherever I can. It is inextricably linked to minimizing food waste, which is something I have focused on in recent years.

We also get through a lot of skincare in our home, but it can go weeks without us disposing of empty packaging for recycling because the products last such a long time. There is no skincare packaging in the recycling bag on a weekly basis – far from it.

But it’s still really important to me that the plastic bottles we use at Karmameju can be reused and recycled. And they can – you can see the “recycling” symbol on the bottles/pots. Our glass bottles can, too – ideally be disposed of in the glass container.

We hope that you will also put your Karmameju packaging in the recycling bins. Items that can be recycled should be disposed of in the right place.

Great ideas for recycling Karmameju packaging

The best thing is if we can find a use for used packaging in the home. Here are some of the ways we recycle Karmameju packaging at our house.

Face mist packaging / We wash the bottles and my daughter Mila uses them for making flower water “perfumes” or as a water spray for the hair when they’re playing hairdressers. They’re also good for misting flowers and plants.

Salt body scrub pots / The fabulous pots for salt scrubs, large and small, are great for storing everything from paper clips, jewellery, small toys and kitchen bits to cotton buds and the like. The stickers on the pots are easy to remove, leaving the packaging completely clean.

Travel sizes / Our 50 ml bottles are designed to be refilled so that you can take them with you whenever you travel. If you don’t travel all that often, wash and dry the bottle so that it’s ready to refill the next time you’re off.

When it comes to the environment, every little helps. As consumers, we can make all the difference in the choices we make, and I think that, when it comes to the environment, it’s so important to remember that everything we do makes a difference.

All the best/
