In my never-ending quest to optimise my skin’s health, I decided to challenge myself with a 30-day Face Yoga challenge, to see if it actually works.

I don’t need any more items on my to-do list, but in my never-ending research into how we can naturally optimise our skin, I can’t ignore the fact that exercising the face can be just as important as exercising the body to stay strong, healthy and free from tension.

Face Yoga, facial yoga, facial exercises, facial gymnastics – it goes by many names, but one thing is certain: exercising your facial muscles must be full of benefits.

Read what I learnt during my 30-day Face Yoga challenge further down in the article.

I was so impressed by the effects of Face Yoga that it’s something I’d like to champion and share with you. That’s why Karmameju has teamed up with Face Yoga master Niki Terlich to create three videos for you, combining facial yoga and aromatherapy

Watch the three videos here:

LOVING
Focus: The lower face

- Stimulate the face, jaw and neck
- Lifts and firms the lower face

CALMING
Focus: The upper face

- Calms the nervous system and the face
- Reduces fine lines on the forehead and worry lines
- Opens up the eye area
- Reduces lines around the eyes

ENERGISING
Focus: The central face

- Lifts the face and lifts the spirits
- Tones and firms the central face
- Adds volume to tired cheeks and plumps the lips

During my 30-day challenge, I learnt several things:

  • Face yoga can also be called facial exercises, as it involves deep muscle activation combined with stretching and relaxation.

  • Surprisingly, it feels fantastic, and I’ve gradually become quite addicted to the sensory experience, both during and afterwards. The warmth in my face, the activated muscles, the relaxed eyes after a long day in front of the screen – it’s such a lovely feeling

  • Many of the muscles in my face were ‘sleepy’. There were several muscles I had to train, connect with and ‘find’ before I could even get them to move. Training your face is just like training your body; it takes time to learn how to do it correctly and respectfully.

  • Doing it whilst following a video works better for me than following a book. I love the little reminders during the workout that help correct my technique.
  • I catch myself doing individual exercises in the car, in front of the computer, and so on. Just as when I stretch my back after getting up from my chair, I often relax my facial muscles completely unconsciously. In other words: it’s become second nature to me. I notice increased circulation and activity in my skin.
  • I love combining Face Yoga with aromatherapy and setting an intention for the ritual – whether it’s LOVING, CALMING or ENERGISING. You can use any scent that’s good for your mind, so let your nose guide you.

The result: Can I tell the difference?

Just as squats are good for your bottom, Face Yoga will tone and strengthen your face and neck when done regularly. Ultimately, the question remains: Are you willing to invest time in doing something extra good for your skin?

Enjoy.

Kind regards Mette

In the videos, we use our body oils – HOPE body oil (loving), MILD body oil (calming) and WILD body oil (energising) – to combine facial exercises with stimulating and sensorial aromatherapy. If you don’t have any of these oils, simply find another beautifully scented product instead. We hope that, over time, this will become a dedicated ‘DO YOU’ moment for you, and that you’ll both see and feel the results.
